About Dr. Jihye Lee

Hello! My name is Jihye Lee (Ph.D., Stanford University, 2022). I'm currently an Assistant Professor of Computational Communication in Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations at UT Austin's Moody College of Communication.

My research studies social and economic inequality in the digital realm, specifically within high-stakes strategic communication settings such as targeted advertising, government public benefits, and health information. My work primarily uses computational methods to take an ecological approach to studying individuals' information experiences in daily life. For example, I have conducted intensive longitudinal field studies that use mobile sensing and computer vision. 

I received my Ph.D. in Communication from Stanford University in 2022. My dissertation, A tale of two Americas: How rich and poor navigate the digital landscape, received the Herbert S. Dordick Dissertation Award from International Communication Association (ICA). I was also honored to receive the Nathan Maccoby Outstanding Dissertation Award from Stanford University. My work on information inequality has been presented to the members of the National Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee (NAIAC). 

My research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Information, Communication & Society, The ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, and PLOS ONE, among others. My work has been supported by the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), UT Austin's Center for Health Communication, The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, The Brown Institute for Media Innovation, etc. 

I received a B.A. in Political Science and M.A. in Communication from Seoul National University in South Korea.
